Hi guys! I have these amazing giveaways for you, sponsored by Microsoft. Before I go to the prizes, I would like to mention that Microsoft is having a web event called Make Web, Not War ’09 in Toronto on Jun 10th (full day), and Vancouver on Jun 2nd (half day). Visit their site for details and registration. Write a comment about the event before Jun 12, in this post, for a chance to win: Microsoft Expression Studio, Gears of War 2 (Xbox game), or 250GB LaCie External Drive.
Comment entries will be accepted until June 12, 2009. Then three winning numbers will be generated randomly from the comment list. First number will get the first prize, second number will get the second prize, and third number will get the third prize.
Comments are closed.

Cokeramirez
Great giveaway, anyway, I didn’t like that the webpage for the event was on flash… I think that’s not a difficult design to reproduce with html+css+jquery
Chris Praley
I really want to go! I love conventions like these, even if it is Microsoft there. There’s usually a lot of innovative people there.

Angie, Microsoft Canada
Hi everyone – it’s great hearing all the positive comments about the event. My name is Angie and I am one of the lead organizers of ‘Make Web, Not War’ 09. It is one of the first times we’ve done something like this from Microsoft for the Web Community & really looking forward to seeing you all there. I have noticed some confusion about what the event is really about so here are a few things in summary, that will be of benefit to you:
o Hear from other Web Partners who build on Open Source & Microsoft technologies
o Network with fellow members of the Web Community
o Learn about the latest Microsoft technologies & how they work with Open Source
o Get technical training of Web Tools to build your Web Development portfolio
o Win prizes in the Web Partner Contest & get your Web Warrior DVD of all the latest Microsoft Web Resources
If you have any questions or feedback about the event, feel free to reach out to me directly at [email protected] or follow me on twitter @angielim. If you are looking for more information feel free to join the Facebook group at http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/event.php?eid=118669152176&ref=ts or our Twitter feed at @WebNotWar.
I will be sure to post the first video of the event as soon as it is live to share with you all. :) Look forward to hearing from you all or seeing you at the Toronto & Vancouver events.
Cheers,
Angie

Toronto is a bit far for my amateur web skills. Those who can go, enjoy it for me.
Sameera
This is open across the globe? :D
If soo..
Mike
i wonder what that event is going to be about?
Cindy Wilson
I was surprised that there was so little info offered for what looks to be an outstanding event. Will continue to watch for updates to their site. Site design is interesting but it might have been fun to create the look that the video is going for – 60’s Make Love not War look.
sham
Wow thats great !

Brooke

If microsoft want to stop a war they should discontinue IE and save us all from bad hacks. x
Johnboy
Will the Internet explorer developers be at the show for us all to throw rotten fruit at?
Rob
If someone could pay my air fair I’d be there. Love to go back to Canada one day.
azcazandco
Shame I live in Scotland, a little too far to travel for the conference. I did once see Chris Wilson speak though and he was actually very good.

Rafael
Superb! I wish I could go to this event. =/
Yeti
Could always use some more external storage :)
Daan
It’s good Microsoft tries to organise this sort of things to get closer to their most hated people, the webdevs/designers who have to code for the IE’s :(
I just hope they’ll announce some drastic change there :)
Thanks for the sponsor though, yay for microsoft! (I actually said it :P )
Elizabeth K. Barone
Why are all the awesome cons in Canada? Maybe I need to organize a road trip! Tech con envy aside, I am going to a horror con this month to meet Bruce Campbell and Robert Englund, so I guess that makes up for it. (:
Enjoy if you are going!
Cindy Roetz
Wish South Africa was more proactive when it comes to things like this, Its easy to allow the world to do things for you. I think we def need more web awareness down here
Sascha

But I though would like to get this OfficePack…
Ginnie
I would love to go, but I am nowhere near that area this summer! Such a pity! =(
Robyn Lynn
I’m a total newbie, but as it happens, I am in Vancouver and just heard about this…day before, so maybe I can still get in and learn from some great designers! Thanks for the heads up!
Cynthia
When will this happen in L.A…..
Brandon Dove
it would be interesting to see what Microsoft’s view of what “making the web” is. IE is notoriously the worst browser to code for.
Michael Wilson
Hahaha, this should be interesting – I don’t have anything against Microsoft, they just.. shouldn’t be doing browsers anymore. I hope silverlight comes out with some sick tech though.
Stina
The event seems interesting, and is even close by to me. Love the design of their website with the nerdy looking kid on it.
Manula
hope one of your upcoming episodes will held on Asia
Jeremy Ham
http://www.webnotwar.ca/ – not a bad site, but whats with that paper tear?!

Jonathan
What fun. Sounds like a really cool event. Sweet prizes. :)
Anna
While it seems interesting, there’s no way I could make it clear across the US to Canada to attend. Any chance for some coverage of the event for the rest of us?
Katie Oakes
Hopefully this event will be full of good information.
Ben
I would love to attend this event. I am very interested in getting more involved in website design. It is too bad that I can get away from work long enough to go. Not sure how I feel about using the Star Wars theme on the announcement though.
Marcelo Novaes
They really should take the guys who designed the event’s site and put him to work on their “Bing” search engine…
Nice event, nonetheless. Too bad I’m currently kind of far from there!
Cheers,
~Marcelo

Well, in the office we have tasted the expresion web since the first version and i don’t know if is so usefull, Adobe is a really monster too defeat. I would like to know how microsoft will teach or convince to use expresion blend, design, etc. The best software that the suite have is Expression web, it´s really great! I used for construct the html/css of http://www.metrabajo.com. It’s like a dreamweaver CS3 but can read better microsoft lenguage and it have a very usefull thing that is that you can see the Styles aparience in the box of CSS, it´s really nice. But I cannot get used with Expression Blend. Expression Design is very very simple. The othes soft i have never tested.
Alicia Teater
Love the main page on the event website! The spin on Star Wars was great! Just getting started creating a website for work so it was a fun inspiration since we are all Star Wars “lovers.”
Peter
Im wondernig what Microsoft brings to the web for new stuff. They are way behind in the browser market as they stood still the last couple of years in the eyes for new techniques.
Although IE8 comes close they better make a kill update for IE6 users so that they will update to a newer version what makes life easier for developers around the world!
Hope I win the studio software ;-)
Lowell
The nerdiness of the website is fantastic! I’d be so in to hang out with anybody who is gonna be able to make it!
halvor_bars
I’m interested in what Morten Rand-Hendriksen will have to say!
I hope they put some clips from the conference up online!
Yaki
Seems interesting. The site throws me as all the different styles… but maybe that’s the point. And since when does Microsoft care about everything being the same… haha ….THANKS for the contest!

Nice to see microsoft pushing for web standards!
If IE gets up to date on cutting edge CSS standards we could see some pretty cool web sites pop up!
Rick
These Microsoft events are usually quite informative. I’ve never been disappointed by one.

I fell in love with web design about 6 months ago because of w.d.w. and now I’m making a living of it. I’d love to be able to share my experience like you do one day, it’s inspiring.
June 10th, heading to Toronto. Yeah!
Rafael Nascimento Sampaio
Interesting, but in toronto for example only have capacity for 200 people, I think they don’t plan it to be a really international event, otherwise some itens from agenda look very attractive like the ftw and the audience interaction for example, I like games so my vote for game loung should not matter hehe.
Holly
Sounds interesting, glad to see they’re trying to embrace web standards.
Allahverdi Suleymanov

Hi All,
I am from the UK and are visting family and friends in Canada for a few weeks, anyways I went to ”Make Web Not War” event, it was my first Microsoft event and pretty happy I did. Building Interoperadle Web Apps with PHP (this presentation by Yann Larivee speaks about what makes PHP one the the most dominant technologies for web development) it was intresting and PHP rocks!!! I hope next time they give a bag to put the goodies in…oh and those lovely prizes… :) Derek
Ethan Hackett
I totally understand Microsoft’s desire to make web not war, but most of my daily battles are because of IE…. so….. that statement kind of gets lost with the reality that it’s mostly their fault.
Jourdan
Awesome event! I’m feeling lucky!
Juan Manuel
Muy buen espacio.
Saneel
Great site…hope I win a prize!
